The territory of Essequibo is of great importance for Venezuela, and its annexation means the restoration of the territorial integrity, Venezuela's ambassador to Azerbaijan, Christopher Martinez Berroteran, said at the press conference, Report informs.
"The purpose of our meeting today is to tell the truth through Azerbaijani mass media and to emphasize the importance of Essequibo territory for Venezuela. The purpose of the referendum to be held on December 3 is to protect Venezuela's rights over the disputed territory of Guayana Esequiba. Thanks to this referendum, we will try to resolve the dispute around this territory in a democratic way with the votes of the people," he said.
The ambassador noted that these lands originally belonged to Venezuela, and the current situation violates the historical territorial integrity of the country.
