Africa sees 111% increase in COVID-19 incidence

In African, the COVID-19 incidence has increased by 111% compared to the previous week, the World Health Organization (WHO) said, Report informs via Interfax.

For the week from December 6 to December 12, African countries recorded about 4 million new cases of coronavirus infection.

The number of new cases in the Western Pacific region also increased by 7%. The incidence has fallen or remained virtually unchanged in the rest of the regions. The global incidence of COVID-19 has decreased by 5% compared to the previous week.

The number of deaths from the disease has decreased by 10% compared to last week. An increase in mortality was recorded only in the Western Pacific region (by 4%). In all other regions, the number of deaths remained the same or did not change. The mortality rate fell the most in Southeast Asia (by 50%).

In just a week, almost 47,000 deaths caused by COVID-19 were recorded worldwide.

The world has seen more than 271.4 million cases of coronavirus infection and more than 5.3 million COVID-related deaths throughout the pandemic.
