The magnitude 5.9 quake was recorded by seismologists in the Indian Ocean near Macquarie Island, which belongs to Australia, Report informs, citing foreign media sources.
The epicenter of the shocks was recorded at a distance of 700 km from the coast and at a depth of 10 km.
Scientists from Australia and New Zealand live on the island, and the Macquarie Island scientific subarctic station is located there. No damage or casualties were reported.
