Eleven persons died on Monday in a landslide in southern Ethiopia, not far from the site of a similar disaster last month, according to the local authority, Report informs referring to APA News.

So far, 11 bodies have been found in the Kawo Koisha district of the Wolaita administrative zone in Ethiopia’s southern region, and search and rescue operations are under way, the Wolaita Zone Government Communication Affairs Department said in a statement on Monday.

It warned that the death toll may likely rise.

The area lies to the northeast of the tiny locality of Kencho Shacha Gozdi, in South Ethiopian regional state, which was hit by mudslides last month and claimed more than 250 people and affected thousands of Ethiopians.

The landslide, according to reports, occurred following heavy rainfall in the Kawo Koisha district.

A number of landslides have occurred in southern Ethiopia recently as a result of heavy seasonal rains.
