Washington Times publishes essence of Armenia's nonsense

In an interview with the Washington Times, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Elin Suleymanov responded to the recent biased and baseless allegations in some news outlets that Syrian mercenaries were involved in the fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia, saying it was basic Soviet propaganda.

The ambassador noted that the Armenian side's main purpose in spreading such nonsense is to create an excuse to involve a third party in the conflict directly.

Suleymanov stressed that the information spread in the Washington Post and other media outlets was not based on facts. Even though a month had passed since the beginning of the fighting, no evidence of these allegations had been found: "Azerbaijan's military forces don't need the help of such fighters."

He insisted that reports about Syrians being deployed to fight Armenians were bogus and that "lazy journalism" allowed misinformation to spread through Western media.

Commenting on the US presidential election, the ambassador told the influential Neweek magazine that Azerbaijan does not participate. Still, regardless of who wins the vote, the future administration must be an objective, impartial and balanced mediator for peace in our region. Elin Suleymanov noted that the Armenian lobby in the US and its pressure hindered it.
