Matviyenko: People in Azerbaijan and Armenia want peace

“The sides of the Karabakh conflict should show continence to find an effective solution to the settlement of the problem,” Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko said.

Report informs citing the TASS that she spoke  at a meeting with the Chairman of the Armenian Parliament Ararat Mirzoyan in Saint Petersburg within the framework of the events of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

She noted that Russia contributes to the settlement of the Karabakh problem within the framework of OSCE activities.

"Now the situation in this region is calm, but we are concerned about the rhetoric which does not contribute to the creation of a favorable atmosphere in the search for a solution to the Karabakh problem. I think we need to be more restrained to find a compromise solution and move forward, since both in Armenia and in Azerbaijan people want peace and normal life for development. We will do everything to fulfill effectively the role of mediator," she said.
