Ombudsman appeals to international organizations over BTC shelling

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, appealed to the world community and international organizations connected with the shelling of the main export oil pipeline Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) by Armenian Armed Forces using prohibited cluster bombs.

Report informs the appeal reads:

"Starting from September 27, 2020, Armenian armed forces have been intensively shelling settlements, social and strategic facilities in Azerbaijan. The civilian population of Azerbaijan is also under fire. Armenia uses heavy artillery, aircraft, missile systems, and prohibited weapons. As a result of the shelling, civilians in Azerbaijan killed, there are wounded, and serious damage has been caused to houses, historical and cultural monuments, administrative buildings, shopping centers, and other social facilities.

From October 6, 2020, until 11 p.m., the Armenian occupants fired massively at the Yevlakh region, where the civilian population lives, and through which the BTC oil pipeline runs. The striking of an area far from the combat zone was carried out with cluster bombs that fell 10 meters from the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.

The main export oil pipeline BTC is of exceptional strategic importance in the context of the economic, political, and energy security of Azerbaijan and Georgia, Turkey, the entire region, and European and world states.
Another war crime committed by Armenia is a crime not only against Azerbaijan but also against regional countries and all of Europe, " the statement says.
