Military personnel to be required to take drug tests in Azerbaijan

The military personnel in Azerbaijan will undergo a mandatory test for drug use at least once a year.

Report informs, citing amendments to the bills "On Narcological Service and Control" and "On the Status of Military Personnel", "On the Circulation of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Their Precursors", "On Military Duty and Military Service" and "Charter of Internal Service of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan".

The document defines the legal basis for the obligatory narcological examination by persons called up for urgent active military service, military personnel undergoing active military service, who voluntarily joined active military service under a contract, and regular officers.

If approved, the law will enter into force on July 1, 2022.

The draft law was put to the vote and adopted in the first reading.
