Azerbaijan prohibits foreigners living illegally from entering into marriage with its citizens

Foreigners living illegally in Azerbaijan are prohibited from entering into marriage with citizens of the country, Report informs.

The relevant bill amendment to the Family Code was discussed in the first reading at the plenary session of the special session of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament) today.

The document stated that a lot of foreigners who have been living for a long time without documents giving the right to stay or live in the territory of Azerbaijan, or without registration, choose to marry an Azerbaijani citizen at the last moment as an easy way to avoid leaving the territory of the country.

Along with the creation of a risk of abuse of the privileges established by the legislation about foreigners who are married to an Azerbaijani citizen, this situation has a negative impact on the effectiveness of the measures implemented in the direction of preventing illegal migration.
