Demonstration of Russian tanks and other armored vehicles neutralized in the Ukraine-Russia war has got underway on the streets of Kyiv.
According to the Report's Eastern Europe bureau, among the showcased equipment are destroyed artillery systems belonging to the Russian army.
Their demonstration will continue until the end of the week. On August 24, on the eve of Ukraine's independence day, this demonstration is expected to be more solemn.
Irina Nikitina, a resident of Kyiv, told Report that the war affected every citizen of Ukraine, and the children were stunned: “My children and I came to see the equipment here. They looked at tanks and took pictures. We would not want our children to witness such events.”
He noted that although the city is calm, they are experiencing psychological trauma inside: “This trauma affected everyone in their own way. Because someone's husband and loved ones die at the front. The smell of death in the air is in the streets of our country. Although everything looks good from the outside, in fact, the true picture is not like that. Every day we experience great pain, we fear for our lives, the lives of our loved ones, our children and our parents.”
Anya Bessarabina, a resident of Hostomel, told Report that the impressions when seeing the equipment are not so good: “I survived the invasion in Hostomel. All these tanks were under my window. They were operated by Russian soldiers and it was terrible. I want all Ukrainians to believe and pray to God and know that we will become an independent state. I am proud to be Ukrainian.”
Nataliya Vashenko, another resident of Kyiv, said that she came to Kyiv from Crimea in 2014: “All these years have been very hard for me. When the war started, it was very scary, but now I am proud of our soldiers, our people, our country. We have to demonstrate all this destroyed equipment. It's just scary and terrifying to imagine what our soldiers are going through on the front lines.”
