Iranian drug traffickers open fire on Azerbaijani border guards

The attempt to smuggle a large consignment of drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan was prevented on December 29, thanks to the vigilance of the border guards on the official territory of the frontier post of the State Border Service near the villages of Perimbel (02:00) and Dashkand (14:30) of the Yardimli district, Report informs referring to the press center of the State Service.

In both cases, the trespassers ignored the lawful demands of the border guards and launched fire. The frontier detachment used guns for precautionary purposes, as a result of which the offenders abandoned the cargo they had with them and fled to the territory of Iran.

During the operational-search activities carried out on both incidents, 170.106 kg of narcotic substances were discovered and seized.

A meeting was held with representatives of the border guards of Iran in connection with the armed incidents.

Both incidents are under investigation.
