Participants of 2nd Shusha Global Media Forum mull impact of disinformation

Panel sessions have started as part of the Second Shusha Global Media Forum.

According to a Report correspondent sent to Shusha, the first panel was held on the topic “Impact assessment: scoping disinformation.”

The moderator of the panel, TRT World presenter and chief producer Ghida Fakhry noted that sometimes the media that spreads misinformation becomes a victim of government policies.

"Those who spread misinformation do not take into account the interest of the audience. Fake news is not something new, we used to call it propaganda. Nowadays, fake news is widespread. As a result of this, people do not receive truthful information. Previous generations did not encounter modern algorithms. The current task is to restore the previous status quo,” she added.

TRT World presenter and reporter Jaffar Hasnain in his speech emphasized that during the 44-day war, publications of many international media created the impression that Azerbaijan had occupied Armenia.

"But a simple study showed that the opposite was true. I saw a lot of false information being spread during the earthquake in Türkiye. Fake news interfered with rescue operations," he added.

First Deputy General Director of the TASS Information Agency Mikhail Gusman emphasized that disinformation is part of wars and has always been.

“Professionals must grasp the essence of fake news. Disinformation is sometimes caused by illiteracy and ignorance. Real disinformation is the information weapon of one state against another. Disinformation has become a more powerful weapon thanks to new technologies,” he noted.
