Ombudsman: Media opportunities are not always using at proper level

Despite the opportunities created in the field of media freedom, the nature and content of the information does not meet the needs of society in the correct and objective information.

Baku. 3 March. REPORT.AZ/ Every self-respecting human rights journalist must objectively analyze and comment on the events taking place in society, to convey to the readers an unbiased and truthful information.

The abilities of the media are not always used at the right level, and despite the opportunities created in the field of media freedom, the nature and content of the information does not meet the needs of society in the correct and unbiased information. Report informs this was said by the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) in the report for 2014.

The statement notes that, pessimism and hopelessness of people sometimes caused by unprofessional prepared information, influencing their consciousness and thinking, causes of illegal behavior, psychological disorders, tragedies, immoral actions and other negative phenomena:Naturally, there is a need for information about current events.However, this information should not overshadow the positive developments in society, the information must not be one-sided.

The report says that given the large impact of the information to society and efficiency of its receipt by the Internet, growing responsibilities that members of the press, public figures and intellectuals for its consequences:Saving the honor, dignity and business image, respect for freedom of thought and speech, the creation of appropriate conditions for healthy and thorough criticism are the main goals of any democratic society.Spread of unchecked, inaccurate information, including defamatory, libelous is unacceptable, at the same time it is necessary to follow the requirements of professional ethics.

Thus, journalists must comply with the law, should not interfere in the personal and family life of citizens without prejudice to their business image, prevent the spread of personal information without the consent of the citizen, including information that is not true.At the same time, journalists have to constantly improve their skills and try to convey accurate, unbiased information to the public.
