Baku. 3 July. REPORT.AZ / Sixty-six journalists have been dead in 22 countries in the first six months of 2018.
Report informs citing the TASS, these data are given in the report published in Geneva by the non-governmental organization Press Emblem Campaign (PEK), which called on the world community to take effective measures to ensure the safety of media workers in conflict zones.
It is emphasized that "from January to June 2018, 66 journalists have been killed in 22 countries". This is almost a third more than in the same period last year, when 50 people were killed.
PEK indicates that more than half of the total number of deaths in January-June 2018 were in Afghanistan (11 dead), Mexico (8), Syria (7), the United States (6) and Yemen (5).
The organization is also deeply concerned about the killing of four journalists in India over the past six months, including one in Kashmir. Three reporters were killed in Brazil, the same in Ecuador and the Philippines. Two in the Gaza strip, Guatemala and Pakistan, while one in Bangladesh, Colombia, El Salvador, Haiti, Indonesia, Iraq, Liberia, Nicaragua, Russia and Slovakia.
Press Emblem Campaign, established in 2004, has consultative status with the UN.
