UNDP wants to help Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) become a demining center of excellence in the region, UNDP Chargé d'Affaires in Azerbaijan Sukhrob Khojimatov said, Report informs.
“ANAMA has a lot of experience and we want to make it a center of excellence in the region. This means that ANAMA will share its experience with other countries. We have already agreed with experts from Turkey and Cambodia, they have already agreed to create a joint exchange center,” he said.
He noted that the organization has been working with ANAMA since 1998 and plans to further strengthen cooperation.
“Recently, a global conference on demining has been held, where experts from more than 37 countries, more than 150 participants were gathered. As a result of the conference, we adopted a document reflecting a new demining roadmap for ANAMA. It will contain new demining standards using the latest technologies and drones. That’s because the use of old methods takes a lot of time,” he explained, adding that great attention will also be paid to the educational process, during which the risks and dangers of mines will be explained.
