Tarek Chazli, the Deputy National Director for Humanitarian Demining at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, emphasized the direct connection between the landmine threat and the climate crisis, according to Report.
"Mine threat has much to do with the climate crisis," Chazli said at the 3rd International Humanitarian Demining Conference on "Mitigating Environmental Impact of Landmines: Resource Mobilization for a Safe and Green Future."
He stressed that demining requires collective efforts.
"Italy supports and positively evaluates the joint work of ANAMA and UNDP in this direction. I also want to emphasize the connection between our activities yesterday and today, as well as the work that the leaders of our countries will carry out within the framework of COP29," he said.
According to him, the damage caused by mines to the environment has a strong impact on the climate crisis, so it is extremely important to discuss these topics.
