Shevchenko: Fruits of Azerbaijan’s victory being realized

The fruits of last year’s victory of Azerbaijan are being implemented for the benefit of all the peoples of the region, Russian political scientist, journalist, TV anchor and public figure Maxim Shevchenko told the Russian bureau of Report.

“The position of the Azerbaijani president was the absence of a desire to seize foreign lands. Baku has always expressed a desire to restore sovereignty in its land, return people expelled from the territories, bring peace to the region. This position is fundamental for the future of the region,” Shevchenko said.

The expert assessed the results of political decisions and agreements a year after the signing of the trilateral statement as progressive, gradually developing processes.

“Russia plays an important mediating role in the post-conflict settlement process. There is no other state that could both become a mediator in the dialogue between Baku and Yerevan, provide a guarantee to the Armenian population, restrain its impulses in the region, and fully guarantee the safe development of the liberated territories for Azerbaijan. Without Russia, the containment of Armenian separatist and terrorist groups would be difficult,” the political scientist said.
