President: Minsk Group co-chairmanship declared dysfunctional after Russia-Ukraine war started

“We heard that the Armenian government also announced a peace agenda. This is very positive statements but at the same time, we need to see actions. And I think, we see these actions. The statements are coming from Armenian government, which are aimed at peace,” said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in his remarks at the international conference under the motto “South Caucasus: Development and Cooperation” held at ADA University, Report informs, citing AZERTAC.

“The statements which are based on the new realities in the region, and which are based on international law, that’s what we always were advocating for. The realities have changed and this has been acknowledged by even the mediators,” the head of state added.

According to the Azerbaijan leader, even before the Russia-Ukraine war, there was disappointment among the Minsk Group co-chairs related to their further activities, because Azerbaijan himself realized the Madrid principles and after the war in Karabakh ended, the President of Azerbaijan said at the meeting with the Minsk Group representatives that they must present proposals about what they will do, what their agenda will be.

The head of state added that he knew it would be difficult for the co-chairs to make any practical proposals. So, after the Russia-Ukraine war started, it was declared that the Minsk Group co-chairmanship is already dysfunctional, which shows that the new realities have their impact.
