Michael Runkel: 'I hope effective solution will be found to speed up demining Azerbaijani lands'

"I hope that an effective solution will be found to speed up the process of demining Azerbaijani lands," a traveler from Germany Michael Runkel told Report.

"I have been to different parts of the world where mines still remain. This is a real tragedy, because first of all, civilians suffer. Even if a mine does not kill, it maims - and a person suffers all their life," he said.

The traveler emphasized that landmines can remain deadly for decades.

"To solve this problem, international will and a pragmatic approach are needed. I sincerely hope that the international community, together with all interested parties, will be able to find an effective solution to speed up the demining process. This is a global humanitarian issue that cannot be postponed," he added.
