Leading international organizations and many countries around the world have declared their condemnation and non-recognition of the so-called “presidential elections” of Armenian separatists in Khankandi.
According to Report, the list of organizations that did not recognize the elections included the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), as well as the European Union, the Council of Europe and countries such as the UK, USA, Hungary, Romania, Pakistan, Türkiye, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova and others.
British Ambassador Fergus Auld noted the importance of the principles and norms of international law: "We support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan."
European countries such as Hungary, Romania, and Moldova also made similar statements about the illegitimacy of the separatists’ actions.
EU Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Nabila Massrali added that taking into account the so-called “elections” in Khankandi, the EU once again declares that it does not recognize the constitutional and legal framework in which they took place. In addition, the EU noted the importance of uniting Karabakh Armenians around “leadership that is capable and ready to conduct result-oriented discussions with official Baku.”
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called on the world community to take effective measures to prevent “destructive steps.” Representatives of the Council of Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States and other international structures also declared non-recognition of the “elections”.
Iran did not directly condemn the “elections,” but answering a question about this at yesterday’s press conference, an official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry declared full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and recognition of Karabakh as an indivisible part of the country.
