ICRC takes biological samples from families of 316 people missing in 1st Karabakh War

Last year, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) took 793 biological samples from the families of 316 people who went missing from the conflict in the 1990s for the future identification of human remains, Report informs.

With the participation of the ICRC as a neutral intermediary, 346 operations were carried out to locate and remove human remains from areas where fighting took place in 2020.

The families of 347 missing people were provided with psychosocial support, and the families of 258 missing people were provided with financial assistance.

In addition, last year the ICRC visited those detained as a result of the Karabakh war 94 times.

These visits were made in 25 detention facilities. As many as 1,760 telephone cards have been issued to enable foreign prisoners to contact families in their home countries by phone. Direct calls as well as the transfer of letters and video messages were organized for the detainees of Armenian origin. The detainees were provided with 2,257 items of clothing, shoes, 650 hygiene kits and 700 books.
