France's Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has rejected calls by several parliamentarians and mayors to side with the Armenians over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Report's French bureau says.
According to the information, addressing the deputies of the French National Assembly, the Minister stressed that the country would maintain a neutral position on this issue connected with a mediator's status in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
"The 1994 mission of the OSCE to Russia, the United States and us demands that France take a neutral position," said Jean-Yves Le Drian. "It is not right for us to take the side of one or the other of the two countries," he added.
Last week, more than 170 French mayors, lawmakers, and senators called on the government not to take a neutral stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and support Armenia.
