Expert: Implementation of joint transport projects to benefit South Caucasus

The implementation of the trilateral statement on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a positive moment, because after any war comes the time of peace, just as morning comes after the night, Mikhael Finkel, an Israeli lawyer, a specialist in international law and international politics, told Report.

He was commenting on the trilateral meeting of the deputy prime ministers of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia, which resulted in a decision to create expert subgroups on transportation and their security, as well as other control.

He noted that these expert subgroups’ work and the implementation of such joint projects would benefit the entire region.

"I am very pleased to know that work is starting in this direction. This is certainly a plus for all parties. That’s because it is impossible to live completely fenced off from each other by a dead wall, there are still issues that need to be resolved, and any attempts to find compromises and points of contact – that’s a big deal," he added.

At the same time, the expert also noted his skepticism regarding the decisiveness of the Armenian side.

"Unfortunately, I am not sure that it will be possible to establish full cooperation even in such secondary issues, since there is great distrust, bias, and hatred from the Armenian side towards the Azerbaijani side. All this doesn’t contribute to the normalization of relations even in such matters," he said.
