By its inaction, the international community is condoning the deaths of Azerbaijani civilians when they were blown up by Armenia-planted mines, Pakistani'sinternational relations analyst Khalid Taimur Akram told Report.
“The mines planted by Armenia during the 30-year occupation, as well as after the end of the Second Karabakh war, continue to kill Azerbaijani civilians and military on their own territory. The international community must understand that, by its inaction, it condones the killing of Azerbaijanis when they are blown up on the mines laid by Armenia. All measures must be taken to stop this,” he said.
Noting that on April 4 the world celebrates the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, Taimur Akram called for special attention to be paid to the issue of demining the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
The expert also called on Armenia to provide reliable maps of minefields, and the international community to assist in the rapid demining of these territories so that the former internally displaced persons can return to their homes as soon as possible.
“The fact of the death of Azerbaijani serviceman Novruz Niftaliyev on April 2 during a mine explosion is proof that this issue is still very relevant, even two and a half years after the end of the second Karabakh war,” Khalid Taimur Akram added.
