CNN Turk correspondent: 'Khankandi-Lachin road is open, what we see nullifies Armenians' claims'

After the second Karabakh war, I saw that the tension in the region did not de-escalate. The war is over, but tensions remain. While such problems continued, the world community did not know how the latest situation on the Khankandi-Lachin road passing through Shusha was, CNN Turk correspondent Ahmet Melih Turkesh told Report.

Talking about what he saw in the area where the peaceful action was held, he said there are temporary checkpoints of Russian peacekeepers in the area. At the same time, the Azerbaijani military is serving in the area: "Besides, Armenia claims they are blockaded. When we arrived here, we saw that only Azerbaijani youths and civilians were in the area. The protests have been going on for 34 days in the frosty weather, which reached -10C. We were freezing during filming for a few minutes, but the protesters have been here for days. They put forward their demands. We were greatly affected by this scene. Azerbaijani eco-activists stated that they will continue their protests until their demands are fulfilled. They are firm in their position and continue the action with this principle."

The journalist said what will happen next is very important: "We will probably see whether there will be any meetings or gatherings in the coming days. I hope the parties will hold meetings and the occasional tension will be resolved through peace and negotiations. Because the desire and demand of the eco-activists here is only related to the protection of nature."

To be frank, before coming to Shusha, I was also watching the Armenian media, and they claimed that the Lachin-Khankandi road was closed and blocked. But when we came here, we observed that the cars of the Russian peacekeepers and the International Committee of the Red Cross passed without any obstacles. This in itself shows that the claims of the Armenians are a lie, and they are spreading false information. I think Armenian journalists can also come here and see what is happening in the area with their own eyes."
