André Villiers: "French government must give explanation on illegal visit of MPs to Karabakh"

"The illegal visit of the deputies of French ruling party to Nagorno-Karabakh is a huge diplomatic mistake," Member of the French National Assembly, Member of the French parliament André Villiers said.

He noted that while France has been trying to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for more than 20 years, the ruling party should not take a different stance on the same issue: "There are deputies elected from the ruling Republican Party among the members of the French National Assembly, who paid an illegal visit to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan at the invitation of the separatist regime in Nagorno-Karabakh. In my opinion, the illegal visit of MPs from the ruling party to Nagorno-Karabakh is a huge diplomatic mistake. The French government should provide a diplomatic explanation for their illegal visit to Karabakh."

Villiers said it is not unusual for the ruling party to take a different position on the issue whose settlement has been mediated by the French state for more than 20 years: "Remember that France is a member of the OSCE Minsk Group, which deals with the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict."
