Sotheby’s to sell Jordan jersey from his iconic Iverson matchup

Sotheby’s will auction a Michael Jordan game-worn jersey from his 1996-97 championship season with the Chicago Bulls, Report informs referring to the Crain Currency.

The jersey carries an estimated value of between $4 million and $6 million.

Sotheby’s will sell the jersey as part of its online sale lasting October 23 to November 4 and titled “Colossal | The Ultimate Jordan Collection.”

According to Sotheby’s, Jordan wore the jersey in at least 17 games during the 1996-97 National Basketball Association season, including his March 12, 1997, matchup against Allen Iverson, when the rookie made an iconic crossover over Jordan that remains part of basketball lore.

“The population of pre-‘Last Dance’ jerseys is remarkably slim, with single-game jerseys from this era rarely appearing on the market," said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles. "Jordan often wore the same jersey for extended periods of time in this era, making them exceptionally rare and coveted. This jersey from the 1996-1997 season is truly a unicorn."

Per the New Jersey-based authenticator MeiGray, this jersey is one of only two red jerseys Jordan wore during the 1996-97 season. Sotheby’s also says its item is the only red jersey from Jordan’s first five championship seasons to be authenticated from MeiGray and emerge publicly.
