In Brazil, the court recognized the right of dogs to compensation for moral damage caused by the owner, Report informs with reference to O Antagonista.

The trial took place in the state of Parana. In the course of the proceedings, two dogs, a six-year-old golden retriever named Spike and a three-year-old pointer Rambo, along with their advocates, were granted "stakeholder" status. Because of this, the animals claim moral compensation in the amount of about BRL 2,000 (about USD 400).

The case pending in court is related to an incident that occurred in August 2020. The police received a report about dogs that were left unattended for a long time.

The law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene found them hungry and exhausted. It turned out that at this time, their owner was on vacation.
