Zangilan International Airport is expected to be commissioned in the first ten days of September this year, Valeh Amiraslanov, a representative of Azerbaijan Airlines, told Report.
"Sixty percent of the work at the airport has been completed. The runway is asphalted. Here, too, the work is 70-80% complete. The foundation of aeronautical facilities is 100% complete. Currently, a canal is being dug between these facilities for communication and electricity lines. Thirty percent of the facade work in the terminal building has been completed. Work on the runway, aeronautical equipment and the tower will be completed in July this year, and work on other facilities will be completed in late August and early September," Amiraslanov said.
Valeh Amiraslanov recalled that the airport's foundation was laid in April last year.
"In May, the Mine Action Agency began clearing the area of mines and unexploded ordnance. In parallel, AzVirt did the earthwork of a 3-kilometer-long, 60-meter-wide runway, and began working on a 60,000-square-meter, 600-meter-long rudder on a platform for eight aircraft. During this period, reinforced concrete construction of the terminal building with an area of 5,000 square meters was also carried out. The work on covering the roof has already been completed by 80% and will be fully completed in the coming days," he added.
