The global economy may face a shortage of one of the most important commodities,
The planet is running out of sand - one of the essential commodities. Sand is the second most common resource after water.
It is the primary material used in the construction of roads, bridges, high-speed motorways.
Sand is also used in the production of glass, silicon chips, and other goods.
Experts note that the world may already face a sand shortage, and it can be one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century.
“We never thought that we would run out of sand, but this is already observed in some places,” UN climate scientist Pascal Peduzzi said.
In particular, one ton of cement production requires 10 tons of sand. Only the construction sector consumes 40 to 50 billion tons of sand every year.
