The total area of sown lands of agroparks in the territory of Zangilan and Gubadli districts irrigated with water from the Zabukhchay reservoir amounted to 2,900 hectares in 2025, an official of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ADSEA), told journalists, Report informs.
According to Guliyev, the Zabukhchay reservoir and the associated main pipeline have been put into operation to provide irrigation water to new agroparks and other consumers in the Gubadli and Zangilan districts, where the total area of sown land is 12,100 hectares.
"A reservoir with a total capacity of 27 million cubic meters and a 51.6 km long pressure main pipeline will serve the agricultural development of the region," he said.
Guliyev noted that according to the technical indicators of the Zabukhchay reservoir, the height of the dam is 61 meters, the width is 502 meters, and the width at the top is 10 meters. "During the construction, a 1.2 km long diversion pipeline belonging to the Gulabird Hydroelectric Power Plant, an emergency spillway, service buildings and surrounding infrastructure were also built," he added.
According to the agency representative, water from the Zabukhchay reservoir is supplied to the cultivated areas of the Gubadli and Zangilan districts, located on the right and left banks of the Hakari River, through the main pipeline, which is one of the main components of the project.
"The 51,600-meter-long pipeline has a flow capacity of 6.2 cubic meters per second at its inception. The pipeline is designed for high-pressure sprinkler and drip irrigation systems," he said.
Guliyev also noted that the Zabukhchay reservoir project plays an important role in realizing the region's agricultural potential. This project will contribute to both boosting agricultural productivity and improving the well-being of the local population.
