Since 2000, global drought has grown by approximately 33%, Xenya Scanlon, Chief of Communications, External Relations, and Partnerships at the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), stated during an event held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
The official noted that drought has intensified in recent years: "Collectively, our future will indeed be hotter, drier, and of course, more urbanized. Seeing the Amazon included last year in our global list of drought hotspots was both surprising and alarming. The Amazon region, particularly Brazil, is increasingly facing the impacts of drought and aridity."
