Tehran lodges complaint with IMO over sanctions

Baku. 9 November. REPORT.AZ/ Iran has called on the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to inspect the legitimacy of US sanctions that targeted scores of Iranian ships, Report informs citing TASS.

Iran's Ambassador to the UK Hamid Baeidinejad said the diplomatic mission under his watch submitted a letter to the London-based body to voice Tehran's protest at the return of the unlawful US sanctions.

In the letter, Tehran's Embassy condemned "the imposition by the US of unilateral sanctions on Iran's ships as a measure that violates international maritime law and endangers maritime security."

It also called on the IMO to conduct a "special review" of the matter at its Assembly -- the organization's highest governing body.

US special representative on Iran Brian Hook said earlier that after imposition of oil sanctions the United States want to warn the countries of the risk of having business with Iran's ships.
