Stefanie Stallmeister says Azerbaijan’s water problem will worsen

Azerbaijan is facing a water shortage, which will become more severe due to climate change, said Stefanie Stallmeister, the newly appointed country manager of the World Bank for Azerbaijan, Report informs.

Stallmeister highlighted this issue during the presentation of the report “Transitioning to Efficient Water Sector Institutions and Programs for Addressing Water Security Challenges.”

She noted that as water resources in neighboring Türkiye, Georgia, and Russia diminish, the amount of water reaching Azerbaijan will also decrease.

“Considering this, the Government of Azerbaijan should take measures to use limited water resources efficiently. Improving institutional organization is one of the most important steps in this direction,” the official noted.
