Russian Railways (RZD) is changing the geography of rail freight, Sergey Pavlov, First Deputy General Director of Russian Railways OJSC, told the TransRussia forum, Report informs citing Russian media.
“Now we see that cargo is being deployed from the west to the east, as well as to the south through the trans-Caspian routes, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan. This is a new challenge and we are ready for it,” Pavlov said.
He also noted that the reorientation of cargo to new routes requires further development of infrastructure, so the company continues to work to expand the throughput and carrying capacity of the eastern operating domain.
