Congestion of large tonnage vehicles (TIR) is observed in the territory of the Baku International Sea Trade Port, Tural Aliyev, advisor to the director-general of Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC, told reporters in Baku.

Tural Aliyev was speaking on the sidelines of the Transport B2B Forum with the support of the Caspian European Club, Report informs.

He said that the reason is that the trucks going to Turkmenistan from Turkey are prohibited from crossing Iran due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in this country.

"This is good in terms of cargo traffic," he noted. "All necessary measures are being taken to simplify the crossing procedures at the Baku port for delivery of TIR cargoes to the opposite shore."

Nevertheless, Aliyev emphasized that the outbreak of the coronavirus negatively affects freight traffic.

"This is because some countries don't accept certain transit goods passing through the port," he said. "Last year, the port recorded an increase in container, rail, car, and passenger transportation from 11 to 50 percent. This year, growth is expected in all directions in the territory of the port."
