Lachin International Airport will play the role of an important transport hub connecting not only Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, but also other regions of Azerbaijan, as well as international routes, Narmin Khalilova, head of the public relations department of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, told Report.
According to her, the opening of the Lachin International Airport is rightfully considered a historical milestone: "This is the ninth international airport in Azerbaijan and the third built in the liberated territories. However, its significance goes far beyond the infrastructure project. Built at an altitude of 1,700 meters above sea level in difficult mountainous conditions, the airport is a serious engineering achievement. It demonstrates the professionalism of our country, strategic vision and the ability to implement large-scale projects even in difficult conditions."

Khalilova emphasized that the airport will accelerate the economic, social and logistical integration of the region, will play an important role in the development of tourism, cargo and passenger transportation, as well as in attracting investment: "The airport fully complies with international standards. The 3,000-meter-long and 60-meter-wide runway is capable of receiving all types of aircraft. The apron with an area of more than 60,000 m² can simultaneously service up to eight aircraft. The terminal building with an area of 5,000 m² is designed to service 200 passengers per hour. It includes a VIP lounge, check-in and security areas, food outlets, baggage systems and digital infrastructure."
The complex includes a modern control tower, two transformer substations, backup generators, water supply and purification systems, video surveillance and high-speed communications. All facilities are equipped with the latest technology. The participation of more than 13 Turkish companies in the construction has become a striking example of international trust and partnership.
"The Lachin International Airport is not just a transport facility, but also a symbol of return and revival. This is a new page in the history of Azerbaijan," Khalilova added.
