Modernization of Azerbaijan-Russia border checkpoints about to be completed

"We are completing the modernization of the checkpoints on the Azerbaijan-Russia border," Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexey Overchuk said at the plenary session of the Made in Russia - 2022 International Export Forum titled "Logistics of changes: the transformation of supply chains and transport-logistics flows" held in a video format, Report informs.

"In particular, modernization and capacity expansion of the Yarag-Kazmalyar, Novo-Filya, Tagirkent-Kazmalyar, and Karauzek vehicle checkpoints are underway. Also, based on the Samur-2 station, the release level of the Darbend railway checkpoint is being increased," he said.

According to him, negotiations on the construction of the missing 160-kilometer railway between the Iranian cities of Rasht and Astara have been resumed, the electrification of the Garmsar-Inche Burun railway is ongoing, and several works are planned to increase the average speed of railway traffic in this region.

"Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran are negotiating the establishment of a tripartite transport and logistics operator on the western route. This will allow to control the movement of goods and harmonize border control procedures to ensure the smooth transportation of goods from the ports of the Persian Gulf to the Baltic countries and vice versa.
