Kobakhidze: Anaklia port will expand Georgia's role in Middle Corridor

The construction of the first deep-water sea port in Anaklia, Georgia, will expand the country's connecting role in the Middle Corridor, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said, Report informs, citing the local press.

Kobakhidze said that the project is of strategic importance for the country and the construction of the port will play an important role in the development of Georgia's port infrastructure, as well as in increasing the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor.

"In the first phase, $600 million will be invested in the project. After this phase is completed, that is, by 2029, the first ships will be received," the prime minister said.

After the first phase of the project is implemented, the port will be able to receive 600,000 containers per year.

This project will be implemented jointly with the China-Singapore consortium China Communications Construction Company Limited & China Harbour Investment Pte. Ltd.

"Given that the state has a 51% controlling stake in this project, we have our own strategic interest. Accordingly, the interests of our country are maximally ensured," Kobakhidze noted.
