The International Organization for Migration (IOM) advocates for inclusive urban solutions amid the growing climate crisis, IOM Climate Action Director Rania Sharshar said at the panel session "Peace-Positive Climate Action through Urban Solutions in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Settings" at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
She emphasized that climate change, armed conflict, and forced migration are fundamentally transforming urban environments worldwide.
"Accelerating urbanization, coupled with climate challenges, is putting enormous pressure on housing, infrastructure, and security. Urban development planning in fragile zones is not a technical task, but a political one, directly linked to peacebuilding and sustainable development processes.
IOM reaffirms its commitment to supporting cities in creating inclusive and climate-resilient conditions for all population groups, including migrants, refugees, and host communities," said Sharshar.
