Georgia to develop customs infrastructure for TITR transits

Georgia is developing infrastructure at customs checkpoints to increase the country's transit potential, including along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili told IMEDI TV, Report informs via TASS.

"The role of the Middle Corridor linking Eurasia is growing increasingly, and the transit flow through the customs territory of Georgia has increased significantly. The volume of cargo transported along the Middle Corridor is expected to grow several times. Our customs tirelessly serves the increased transit flow. The strategic task of the Georgian government is to use and rapidly develop the existing infrastructure even more effectively," he said.

He noted that in 2023 a new facility will be opened on the Georgian-Azerbaijani border - at the Lagodekhi customs checkpoint. Other checkpoints are also being upgraded. Besides, "large-scale projects" for the construction of roads have been launched, most of which will be completed by 2024, and the railway, port and aviation infrastructure is being upgraded.

TITR, or the Middle Corridor, connects China and European countries through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkiye.
