The construction of 35% of the Horadiz-Agband highway and 50% of the railway, which forms the Zangazur corridor, has been completed, Report informs referring to Rahman Hummatov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport.
The Deputy Minister added that the negotiations on the construction of a railway line connecting Nakhchivan with the western regions of Azerbaijan are underway.
"Immediately after the liberation of the lands occupied for many years, following the decrees of the President, large-scale restoration and construction work has started in the region. One of the most important projects is the Horadiz-Aghband highway and the railway line built in parallel with the highway, which forms the Zangazur corridor. Currently, the construction of the Horadiz-Aghband highway is underway. Physical completion is currently over 35% and is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2024," he said.
Hummatov said that the total length of the railway, built parallel to the highway, is 110.4 km and is planned to be completed by the end of 2023: “Thus, 50% of the work on the road has been completed. As we know, this is the main artery for the Zangazur corridor in Azerbaijan’s territory. However, following the statement of the leaders dated November 10, 2020, negotiations on the construction of a railway line connecting the western regions of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan are underway, and we hope that soon it will yield positive results and the construction will start. Thus, the Zangazur corridor will be fully completed.”
