Deputy minister: Average population density in Baku is 9 times higher than national indicator

Average population density is approximately 92 people per km² in Azerbaijan, 840 people per km² in the Baku agglomeration, and 400 people per km² in the Absheron economic region, Rahman Hummatov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, said in an interview with Report as he revealed the reasons of traffic congestions in the capital and surrounding areas.

According to him, comprehensive measures should be taken to regulate the transport system:

“The increase in economic activity, as well as the transportation needs of the population, causes traffic congestion problems all over the world, especially in large cities and economic centers. Besides being the capital, Baku is the economic and educational center of our country.”
