Container transportation via Middle Corridor from China exceeds 10,000 TEUs

In January-April 2025, transit container transportation via the Middle Corridor, passing through the Kazakhstan-China terminal in Xi'an, China, reached 10,524 TEUs, equivalent to 126,288 tons, Report informs, citing Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC.

“Today, the terminal has a capacity of 133,000 TEU per year. Over the past year, the volume of transit shipments through this center exceeded 276,000 tons (about 23,000 TEUs were processed and shipped). In just 4 months of 2025, 10,524 TEUs (126,288 tons) were shipped and processed, and by 2030 it is planned to increase this figure to 83,000 TEUs per year,” the JSC said.

Construction of the Xi'an terminal began in May 2023. Thanks to the terminal's commissioning in February 2024, the volume of container transportation from China via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor) increased 33 times over the previous year.

Xi'an is China's main transit hub and the country's largest dry port. More than 30% of container trains heading to Europe are formed at this port, and approximately 40% of imports from CIS countries pass through here.

TITR is an international route from China to Europe via Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. This route is considered as an alternative to traditional transportation routes, especially against the background of global geopolitical changes and the redirection of logistics chains.
