A project on regular monitoring of earthquake resistance of high-rise buildings in Baku has been prepared, Director of the Earthquake Engineering Research Center of Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, Azer Gasimzada said at the Conference on Financial System Resilient Against Catastrophic Risks in Baku, Report informs.
According to him, insurance companies will take into account the monitoring results when insuring apartments in those buildings.
Gasimzada said that when the earthquake occurred, the buildings carrying a high risk were assessed:
"This calculation was made based on the buildings damaged during the last major earthquake in 2000. Some 25% of the buildings damaged during that earthquake were reinforced concrete panel buildings, 70% were stone buildings, and 5% were buildings prefabricated stone structures."
