Baku Port planning to build intermodal and multimodal terminal

An intermodal and multimodal terminal is planned to be built in Baku Port, Khudayar Hasanli, Head of Strategic Planning and Development Department of Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC, told Report.

According to him, this terminal fully serves the port development, additional cargo attraction, and hub concept: “The intermodal and multimodal terminal will allow us to accept cargoes that come in different forms and transfer them by adapting them to different means of transport. This terminal can create conditions for the attraction of large cargoes in the region. The most developed ports in the world have these terminals. This terminal will make it possible to find fast logistics solutions for cargoes arriving in the Middle Corridor.”

He said a feasibility study for the construction of the second phase of the Baku port will be completed soon: “In the second phase, the transshipped potential of the port will be developed. The construction of the second phase of Baku Port is expected to begin at the end of this year and the beginning of next year. According to the initial project, with the completion of the second phase of construction, the annual cargo handling in the port will be increased to 25 million tons, including 500,000 TEU containers. At the result of the technical feasibility study, other specific bridges can be built in the port.”

“In the second phase, we envisioned the construction of an intermodal and multimodal terminal. We plan to create a trailer truck park in the second phase. Over 20% of cargo that was transported by more than 120,000 semi-trucks from Türkiye was carried through Azerbaijan. But we can attract 50% of these loads. But to attract 50% of these loads, logistics solutions should be suitable for this type of cargo,” Khudayar Hasanli added.
