Azerbaijan represented at UN meeting on cities, climate change

The delegation headed by Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture Anar Guliyev and consisting of officials of the Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan took part in the meeting of the Ministers of Urban Development entitled Cities and Climate Change within the framework of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), held in Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt), Report informs referring to the Committee.

The main issue at the meeting was SURGe - Sustainable Urban Resilience for the Next Generation, put forward by UN-Habitat and COP27 with the support of the ICLI – Network of Local Governments for Sustainability.

The goal of the initiative is to accelerate the implementation of the climate agenda in cities, increase climate finance, build on existing capacity in this area, expand opportunities to take advantage of technology and innovation, and implement comprehensive measures, such as ensuring equity among urban communities around the world.
