Azerbaijan presents modern approaches to urban development at UN-Habitat Assembly

On May 29-30, the second session of the UN-Habitat Assembly, where Azerbaijan was represented by Anar Guliyev, chairman of the State Committee on Urban Development and Architecture, national coordinator for the World Urban Forum (WUF13), concluded its work in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, Report informs referring to the State Committee.

Following the elections within the session, Azerbaijan was elected a member of the UN-Habitat Executive Board for the first time. The membership will cover 2025-2029 and will allow the country to play a more decisive role in making international decisions in the field of urbanization, the formation of a sustainable and inclusive urban environment.

The session also officially approved the theme and date of the World Urban Forum - WUF13, which will be held in Baku in 2026. The Assembly also approved a new Strategic Plan for 2026-2029 and the International Guidelines on People-Centred Smart Cities.

Guliyev emphasized the growing role of cities, the importance of COP29 in the global climate agenda, and the high assessment of the initiatives of the Baku continuity coalition at the international level.

The main plans of WUF13, modern approaches to urban development, and the country's initiatives were presented at the Azerbaijani stand organized within the session.
