Azerbaijan and Russia mull development of North-South corridor

The First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Andrei Belousov, met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev, who is on a business trip to Russia, Report informs.

During the discussions, the development of the railway route of the North-South International Transport Corridor was discussed.

Belousov was on a business trip to Baku on October 9. Mustafayev discussed with him the implementation of this project as well as other relevant issues.

North-South is mainly designed for the delivery of goods from India and the Iranian Gulf region to Russia, Western Europe, and Baltic and Scandinavian countries. The main advantage of this corridor compared to other routes is that the transit distance and transit time are two to three times less. If the time of transportation by sea is 45–60 days to the city of Helsinki by passing through the Iranian Gulf, Indian Ocean, Suez Canal, Mediterranean Sea, and Baltic Sea, this time is 20–25 days through the North-South Corridor.
