Azerbaijan aims to complete railway electrification by end of 2025

Azerbaijan plans to complete the electrification of its railway network by the end of 2025, according to Emil Mammadov, advisor to the chairman of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), Report informs.

Emil Mammadov shared this announcement during the Caspian and Central Asia Oil Trade and Transport Forum held in Baku.

"When talking about infrastructure, it is important to understand that it consists of more than just the railway line. Infrastructure also includes locomotive traction and rolling stock. All these elements are an integral part of the sustainable development of the railway system," Mammadov noted.

He further noted that the electrification project will enable the full utilization of locomotives operating on alternating current. "We have already started partially implementing such locomotives. However, completing the installation of power supply and signaling systems is essential for their full operation. The locomotives are already part of our balance sheet and are prepared for use," Mammadov explained.
